Parsha Corner: Parshas Pekudai – The Right Way to View Mitzvos

Rabbi Mordy Anton   -

In this week’s Parsha the Torah says that Klal Yisroel were unable to erect the Mishkan because of the heaviness of the kerashim.

When Moshe Rabbeinu attempted to erect it, a miracle happened, and it stood.

Rashi explains that even though Moshe was just as strong as everyone in the rest of Klal Yisroel, and therefore should have also failed, he nevertheless was able to make it stand because of a miracle from Hashem.

But why was Moshe zoche to this miracle?

Rashi expounds that although Moshe’s inability was no fault of his own, but rather because the job required strength beyond his abilities, it nevertheless pained him that he couldn’t be involved. Hashem saw his yearning to do the mitzvah and as a reward allowed him to do it.

The Yesod Yisroel explains that this chazal highlights the way we should feel about mitzvos. When we miss opportunities to do mitzvos we shouldn’t be celebrating but rather dismayed or let down.

Mitzvos are crucial invaluable chances to connect with Hashem, and if we viewed mitzvos this way we surely would be pained over missed opportunities, even if it’s an “oneis”.

May we all be zoche to appreciate this lesson and see the miraculous brachos that shower those who do.

Have a wonderful Shabbos!
