Parshas Pikudei – Mitzvos

Rabbi Mordy Anton   -

In this week’s Parsha, the Torah tells us that Klal Yisroel were unable to erect the Mishkan due to the heaviness of the kerashim. Rashi explains that Hashem was saving this special job for Moshe Rabbeinu. Moshe was zoche (merited) this honor because he was pained over not being able to help in building the keilim (vessels). When Moshe attempted, a miracle happened, and it stood. It is obvious that Moshe was unable to help due to an “oh’nes” (an act of God) and not because of any shortcoming in character. Nevertheless, it pained Moshe that he couldn’t be involved, and he was rewarded for that pain.

This Chazal highlights the way we should feel about mitzvos. We shouldn’t view them as nice opportunities that would be nice to do but rather as crucial, invaluable chances to connect with Hashem. If we viewed mitzvos this way, we surely would be pained over missed opportunities, even if it’s an “oh’nes.”

HAVE A WONDERFUL SHABBOS!
